When you come to visit our campground, you might want to hang out around our community fire pit at night, especially during these cooler months. We invite you to gather around the fire and enjoy time with your friends and family. Here are some fire pit safety tips to help you make the most out of your time around the fire, while still staying safe:
- Never leave an active fire unattended. When you plan to retire for the night, be sure to fully extinguish the fire with water or sand.
- Keep a bucket of water or sand close by in case the fire gets out of hand.
- Always closely monitor children and animals around the fire pit.
- Remove any tripping hazards from around the fire pit. Place all furniture a safe distance from the fire pit.
- Don’t use accelerants like gasoline on the fire.
- Don’t wear loose clothing or blankets when attending to the fire.
- Avoid using soft woods such as pine and cedar, as these often pop and throw sparks.
A fire pit is a great way to enjoy the great outdoors at night, especially on those chilly nights. Gather around, make some s’mores, and tell some ghost stories.
